Christians are a bunch of hypocrites.

I think Buddhist, Muslims, Hindus are also hypocrites. But I won’t write about them because I am not them. As a Christian, I can say for sure we are hypocrites.

Do you all know that Christians are not supposed to eat food that has been offered to gods or idols? Like for example, roasted pig that been laid before an altar is no eat to Christians. Other food like oranges, apple, chicken are also no no is they been blessed by idols. You can find the reason here.

I have heard many cases where in-laws were not happy with each other because one party serves “offered to idols” food, especially during Chinese New Year and other festive days. Christians will refuse to eat the food making the party that served the food unhappy.

I say Christians are hypocrites because if we are not suppose to eat food that have been offered to idols, then why are we eating fried chicken in KFC or beef steak in Victoria Station or kamping soup in mamak stalls. We should stop eating all these.

All of us know that these chickens, beef or kambing are halal. Or in other word, have been blessed by Muslim prayer/rite. These foods have been offered to Muslims’ god for blessing.

If we Christian are not supposed to eat food that has been offered to idols then we should stop eating halal meat also. Otherwise we are hypocrites.

As for me, I eat anything that is served on the table. I pray and give thanks for the food, and ask God to bless the food. Amen.

hehe.. you're joking right? :P

it's cute when you said halal brands are a type of food blessed for "muslim" god's consumption... since both christian god and muslim god are the same anyway.

Good post. And very refreshing idea. I blogged about in the past when christians refused to offer joss sticks even though that was a chinese tradition and not a religious ceremony, they cannot accept. Chinese have been burning joss stick even before Christ was born. Some chinese minds are pretty screwed if you asked me. I will write another post and link to you, if you don't mind ;-)

err... if you read that whole article you linked to... you will notice this two paragraphs:

"Idol is nothing, but many converts who are new in the Faith may not think so. Being accustomed all their life to the idea that an idol is a god (something real), such converts think that, if they eat the food offered to an idol it means eating it as a thing offered to something that is real. And because their conscience is weak, they feel defiled.

Food does not bring us closer to God, whether or not we eat them. It does not make us any better nor does it make us any worse. It is how we exercise our freedom in the things we do that we do not become a stumbling block to the weak."

It is saying that, although we're not supposed to eat food offered to idols, it makes no difference whether we eat it or not. It's just bearing testimony to new believers and to others that we're not worshipping idols.

Know that not eating food offered to idols is a man made rule. Jesus declared all food clean in Mark 7:19.

If you read the article further, you will realize that the author said that claims of eating blood and food offered to the idol being forbidden is not biblically based. It's just for us Christians to not falter and not become confused. (Romans 14:20)

Just to clarify. I'm not trying to flame you >.<

I feel that this isn't true (about the halal thingy) Because when we eat it we don't really think so much on whether the food is blessed by muslim God when we eat halal food. In fact we don't even care about whether it is halal or not and we do not believe in their existence.

kori, tq for your comment. :)

Anon 8:47, true, we dont care whether the food is halal or not. We can do the same to "offered to idols" food.

Just say grace and God will bless.

wow, i really have to agree with you.
I, myself being a Christian have a problem rejecting offered food 'cause I'm just a small kid and other people are mentioning that we shouldn't eat those food,
But I have a thought, that we believe our God is the only God, thus saying other Gods don't exist (no offence, just stating the belief).
Therefore food offered to nothing is just okay I guess.
I had a little problem on eat offered food before this,
Now I think ur post helped me.
Thank you =D (maybe the Holy Spirit is at work o.O)
